To celebrate The 2021 Masters Tournament, let’s take a look at our favorite moments from past years. We’ve got our list of our top 5 shots at The Masters compiled by our Sales Analyst and self-proclaimed “golf fanatic” Nate Schwalm. Get into the spirit of the season and enjoy these historic moments while we watch this weekend.
5. Tiger Woods chip in on 16 – 2005
One could make a case for this being the most iconic Masters shot of all time.
The setting, the moment, the player, the shot was all there for this one. Tiger chips it from against the collar of the rough, down the hill and watches it roll for 15 seconds as it makes one final revolution in the bottom of the cup.
A shot only Tiger could pull off in a situation of that magnitude. The shot helps push past Chris Dimarco to clinch the green jacket.
4. Bubba Watson 90 degree hook shot on 10 – 2012
I never thought a golf ball could curve that much in such a short amount of time, but Bubba proved to us all why he is so special.
He was 163 yards to the pin and hooked it 45 yards with a gap wedge of all clubs to about 20 feet from the flagstick. He also pulled this off, during a playoff with Oosthuizen who had the albatross that very same day.
Bubba’s shot was ultimately enough to set up him for the win.
3. Phil Mickelson from the Pine Straw on 13 – 2010
With Lee Westwood hot on Mickelson’s heels, he knew he had to make something happen as he walked up to his ball in the pine straw on 13.
From being pinned behind a tree and with branches overhead, he rips a 6-iron from 207 yards to 4 feet. An incredible shot that ultimately was the spark he needed to propel him to a green jacket.
2. Louis Oosthuizen Albatross on 2 – 2012
At a shot that odds are 6 million to 1, we had to put Louis Oosthiuzen’s albatross in this list.
From 253 yards out he drills a 4 iron into the cup after a hop and over 70 feet of rolling on the green to the back right hole location.
Without this shot, he would have never made it into the playoff with Bubba Watson. Truly an incredible shot likely to never be repeated again.
1. Larry Mize Chip in at 11 – 1987
One of the greatest shots in a playoff, Larry Mize from 150 feet chips it in during a playoff with Greg Norman for the Masters Title.
He was short sided and had no chance of getting the ball to stop before the hole. Only way to stop it was the ball going in, which it incredibly did. It was the clinching shot for Larry to win his very first Masters.
